Fusion Energy Division (FED) Mission n This division promotes the development and timely introduction

Fusion Energy Division (FED) Mission n This division promotes the development and timely introduction of fusion energy as a sustainable energy source with favorable economic, environmental, and safety attributes. The division cooperates with other organizations on common issues of multidisciplinary fusion science and technology, conducts professional meetings, and disseminates technical information in support of these goals. Members focus on the assessment and resolution of critical developmental issues for practical fusion energy applications.

Summary n Areas of Success: • Membership has grown significantly over past several years (perhaps due to US rejoining ITER and progress on NIF) • Student membership up sharply since 2002 • TOFE attendance very strong in 2004; Expect strong showing in 2006 with ITER moving forward n Focus for Future Action: • Continue with Program Committee restart • Continue efforts to gain Fellow status for more FED members
