History and Mission of BMD • The Biology and Medicine Division (BMD) of the American Nuclear Society focuses on the biological applications and medical uses of the atom. • Members focus on the application and development of nuclear technology for the life sciences, as well as the impact of such technology on society. Areas of interest include neutron, photon, and charged-particle applications, dosimetry, radiographic and radioisotope imaging, radionuclide production, bone and tissue dosimetry, biological effects of radiation exposure, and other related subjects.

Computational Medical Physics Working Group • Formed in 2005 and co-sponsored by BMD and MCD, the CMPWG is a multidisciplinary group which served to promotes the advancement of computational tools, experimental data, and enabling technologies which are applicable to clinical problems in medical and health physics • The applications include computational benchmarks on phantoms and detectors, large scale optimization, deterministic and stochastic approaches to radiation therapy and diagnostic problems.
