Turn and Talk: Turn to a partner and discuss what you noticed about COOPERATION and TEAMWORK in the video.

Did you notice? ? TRUST ENCOURAGEMENT COMMUNICATION COOPERATION

COOPERATION = TEAMWORK By working as a team, nine soldiers were able to scale an insurmountable wall in 30 seconds. (And two of them were carrying backpacks full of equipment!) Every man on that team had his own strengths and had to do his own unique job…a task that only he could perform. Did you notice this in your discussion? By working together they were successful. If even one of them had failed, the entire team would have failed…

TEAM ROLES in the VIDEO: 1. The TEAM LEADER/FACILITATOR and his Heavyweights went over first: Powerful; they needed help to get to their positions, but once they were on top of the wall, they were able to pull the others over, and made sure all got over safely. 2. Supporters/Encouragers went next: They remembered to bring the materials that the entire team would need once they were over the wall. Then they continued to help the others as needed. 3. Organizers/Elaborators went next: They made sure that all of the necessary tasks got done and used innovative methods to make sure that each of them got up and over the wall safely. 4. Problem solver /Checker went last: He was a nimble soldier who could think and move quickly. He made sure everything was done and nothing was left behind before he went over last.

What are YOUR personal powers/strengths? Your Roundup class is your “school family”…your TEAM. By working together this school year, you can and will accomplish so much for the GREATER GOOD. Let’s do some self-reflection and think about your own personal strengths and what you can contribute to your Roundup TEAM. We will be completing personal POWER CARDS for you to keep for future activities. (Teacher –pass out index cards)

On the lined side of your POWER CARD, write your name and then choose a few Mental and Physical Abilities that you feel you possess:

Continue to fill out your POWER CARD. Select a few more Personal and Interpersonal Qualities that you feel you possess. MORE STRENGTHS

Now turn your POWER CARD over to the blank side. Think back to the video and decide what type of TEAM role might be best for you and write it down. You may choose more than one role…remember with different challenges you may need to use different strengths and powers! Are you a: Team Leader/Facilitator? Supporter/Encourager? Organizer/Elaborator? Problem Solver/Checker? Something else? ? ?

Put your POWER CARD in your Agenda for future use. For the rest of this trimester we will be learning much more about the Pillar: Cooperation in Roundup class. You may be setting TEAM goals. You will be performing different challenges. You will be working as a TEAM and using your powers/strengths to collaborate with others. You will learn to achieve COMMON GOALS for the GREATER GOOD of the Avondale Middle School community.
