Project organisation • Project manager: LTU through Bo Björkman • Participating parts: • • Boliden Rönnskär Stena Kuusakoski LTU
The purpose and goal of the project • WEE with low metal content • Plastic → energy and possible reduction potential • Metal → Valuable metals and deleterious elements • • Metal content is too high for energy recovery due to ash formation Metal content is too low for profitable metal recycling Potential as a reduction agent in base metal production Today several such WEE fractions are sent for landfill • The goal is to find a suitable such fraction to replace coal as a reductant used in the process for recovering Zink from slag at Rönnskär.
Results • Characterization • Mixed material • Pure plastics • Devolatilization properties • Decision on materials for plant trials
