Alternative options to identifying effective leaders. Identify four famous people which will be recognised by the whole group, and who you feel demonstrate true leadership skills (you may have ones that you know are not perceived positively by allthis will help to cement the fact that people perceive people differently and that we all see different qualities in each other that others may not see). You could include prominent politicians or well-know sports personalities. Place the names and/or pictures of the 4 leaders up, one on each wall. Split the group into 4 smaller groups and ask them to go to the leader that most resonated with them. Ask them to note down on the leader the following: • How do they feel about this leader? • What is the first thing that comes into their head when they think about this leader? • What they feel their positive qualities are? • What they have done that is great? • What they deem to be the areas that let them down (this should be done in a different colour) Then ask the group to rotate to the next leader and do the same (repeat until all four have been covered by each group). Ask them to then look around the room and see the different perspectives- what do they notice? Ask them have they changes their perception of which leaders most resonates with them now? If yes why?
