Alpine village

Alpine village Many traditional alpine villages have been totally wiped out to make way

Alpine village Many traditional alpine villages have been totally wiped out to make way for the tourist industry. The process has taken on a familiar pattern. Take, for example, a small mountain village that is remote and unknown to tourists. First, some businessmen come up with the money to develop the site into a ski resort. Then, they put forward plans to build hotels, apartments, shops, swimming pools and other amenities to cater for the tourist industry. Finally, they win across local support with promises of modern facilities and increased employment. (Adapted from Grammar Dictation, R. Wajnryb, OUP)

Dear diary I didn’t write last week because I was too busy. I started

Dear diary I didn’t write last week because I was too busy. I started school on Sunday and it’s very difficult. I met some nice students on the first day. We went to a movie together on Wednesday and we had lunch with our teachers on Thursday. School starts again next Monday. I’m tired now so goodnight. (Adapted from Grammar Dictation R. Wajnryb, OUP)
