Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Lambda Phi Omega Chapter 2016 Member Survey Results Preliminary Report October 4, 2016 – October 15, 2016 Designed and administered by the Strategic Planning Committee: Sorors Romona Davis, Loretta Embry, Jean Johnson, Diana Jones, Robynne Sherrill, Belva Denmark Tibbs (chairman), Jackie Whatley, Deann Wheeler, Deborah Willis, and Wendy Batch-Wilson Powered by
Introduction/Methodology To assist in the development of the 2017 -2019, Lambda Phi Omega Chapter's Strategic Planning Committee designed an internal chapter survey to gather information about member demographics, knowledge/skills/abilities (KSAs), and engagement in programs/fundraising activities as well as chapter strengths and opportunities for improvement. The survey consisted of 37 multiple-choice and 9 open-ended questions. The survey also included the standard Net Promotor Score (NPS), which was question 40 (see page 28 for an explanation); NPS is a recognized proxy for overall satisfaction and brand loyalty in the industry. Responses were solicited through email and collected via Survey. Monkey. com or hard copy. Chapter members were encouraged to participate in the survey from October 4 -15, 2016. On three separate occasions during this period, Soror Romona Davis, Basileus, sent all chapter members an email, which included an introductory statement about the survey, a web link to the survey as well as a hard-copy (PDF) of the survey for members who prefer not to use the on-line version. The email also included the one-page 2017 -2019 Lambda Phi Omega (LPO) Chapter Strategic Planning Update to provide needed context for the survey questions. Consequently, a total of 58 chapter members (or 46% of the total membership) responded to the survey; 45 members used the web link and 13 submitted paper surveys, which were later manually entered into Survey. Monkey. com. As many as 49 Sorors responded to the nine open-ended questions; select responses (i. e. , "no comments, "n/a" or "don't know“) were excluded from this count. Powered by

" • "I enjoy the Leadership Development activities. We need to continue these efforts. " One Soror provided a very comprehensive recommendation for preparing future leaders: "Standardize documents/templates, create internal operating procedures that provide chapter-specific guidelines on how to conduct the business in Lambda Phi Omega Chapter. While there are national guidelines, these guidelines are not instructions on how specific processes in the chapter should be completed. Therefore, each subsequent chairman gets instructions from the former chairman if she's fortunate enough to get clear ones, and learns through hard knocks. Chairmen should have guidelines on how to complete succinct reports, how and when to bring motions to the chapter, how to keep tabs on her budget line item, what she can and can't purchase, what the protocol is for public announcements, how/when to properly transfer collected funds to the pecunious grammateus, and when to make announcements versus reports. Document the specific processes (yes we have national standards, but national standards do not instruct LPO members on exactly how LPO wants those national requirements carried out). Structure operations like a business, incorporate more technology to make processes easier, and train the leaders on the approved internal operating guidelines. The result might prove to be fewer mistakes along the way, shorter meetings and more people willing to step up and take the reins. “ Powered by

" "Early on I was eager to serve in leadership roles but was stagnated by the "clique mentality" and lost interest; however, willing to participate and serve. " “My knowledge of chapter operations and the impact the sorority has in the community has been enhanced because LPO does a very good job of reaching into the community. The chapter is sisterly and there is always more to learn in terms of sorority operations. From a professional development standpoint (e. g. , financial oversight/budgets, personnel, professional writing, etc. ), I can't really say the chapter has "enhanced" my skills. I think those skills were learned more through school and work. " Powered by

Q 40: How likely is it that you would recommend joining Lambda Phi Omega Chapter to a friend or colleague? According to the Survey. Monkey benchmark, LPO has an excellent NPS Explained “The Net Promoter Score (NPS) is an index ranging from -100 to 100 that measures the willingness of customers to recommend a company's products or services to others. It is used as a proxy for gauging the customer's overall satisfaction with a company's product or service and the customer's loyalty to the brand. NPS can be as low as − 100 (everybody is a detractor) or as high as +100 (everybody is a promoter). An NPS that is positive (i. e. , higher than zero) is felt to be good, and an NPS of +50 is excellent. Customers are surveyed on one single question. They are asked to rate on an 11 -point scale the likelihood of recommending the company or brand to a friend or colleague: “On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely are you to recommend this company’s product or service to a friend or a colleague? ” Based on their rating, customers are then classified in 3 categories: detractors, passives and promoters. ‘Detractors’ gave a score lower or equal to 6. They are not particularly thrilled by the product or the service. They, …could potentially damage the company’s reputation through negative word of mouth. ‘Passives’ gave a score of 7 or 8. They are somewhat satisfied but could easily switch to a competitor’s offering if given the opportunity. … ‘Promoters’ answered 9 or 10. They love the company’s products and services. They are the repeat buyers, are the enthusiastic evangelist who recommends the company products and services to other potential buyers. The Net Promoter Score (NPS) is determined by subtracting the percentage of customers who are detractors from the percentage who are promoters. ” Source: http: //www. medallia. com/net-promoter-score/ Powered by

Q 41: Recommend LPO to a Friend -- Why or Why Not Comments continued N = 16 While many Sorors described the wonderful sisterly relations, sisterhood or community programs as the reason they would recommend Lambda Phi Omega Chapter, several respondents identified some opportunities for improvement. • “Our chapter is very welcoming and there are many varied opportunities to get in and fit in. There is something for everyone. ” • “Lambda Phi Omega is a very welcoming and friendly chapter. LPO provides plenty of community service programs and sisterly relation activities as well as taking care of sorority business. ” • "The chapter is not as solid as it should be. The members are not trained well because they have not been in the chapter long enough to have positions of leadership. Also, there are too many subgroups (cliques) not a friendly environment, especially among the newbees. “ • “There is still too much dissension within the chapter. ” • "Sometimes it gets cliquy and there is no active mentoring for new members --also only a handful of Sorors are recognized for their hard work. " • "There are some members that have performed unscrupulous acts while serving as officers and wasn't held accountable. " • “Excellent group for growth, community involvement, sisterly connection, serving others” • “We are a great chapter, but we do have somethings to work on. Meetings run too long and at times cliques. ” • “Lambda Phi Omega is very active in the community and it is just the right size where you feel valued and welcomed!” • “ There are only a select few that I feel would be truly committed to our chapter. ” • "I think Lambda Phi Omega Chapter is made up of a very motivated group of women who take their affiliation seriously. Though not every group is perfect and there may be disagreements among sorors, generally the disagreements don't become so obtuse that they get in the way of progress. The chapter is small enough to get as involved as you wish, but small enough to know the names and faces of most. LPO has a presence in the community and a presence in the region. I'm probably biased, but no other chapter or sorority in this area is going to give a candidate that small-chapter feel with a big chapter community impact as well as LPO. " • “We have more room to grow, but overall Sorors are very sweet, warm and kind. ” • “Strongly recommended my daughter join the chapter, but she moved out of state. ” • “Lambda Phi Omega has a sisterly relationship, which is its greatest asset. It glows throughout the chapter and with its members. • "I appreciate the intimacy of our chapter and knowing who my sorors are. There's a lot of love & support within our chapter. " • "There is a lot of diversity and sisterhood within our Chapter. It's not too big and not too small. “ Powered by

" • GENERAL - "In the past, LPO has been very exemplary with taking care of business. Up until about 6 years ago was when the wrong people got into office but before that it was run like a business. “ • PROGRAMMING -"While scholarship is important/wonderful. Everyone is giving scholarships. We need to do better at addressing community needs and spending our dollars there so that more students can focus on their education not their needs. “ • PROGRAMMING - "Program implementation- we have creative services projects and other community programs. “ • PROGRAMMING - "It would be nice if we could get our projects out more to the public. “ • PROGRAMMING - "Health initiatives and activities that support them are superior. “ • OPERATIONS - "Keep sorors informed of the happenings within the chapter. “ • OPERATIONS - "Documenting the chapter activities. “ Powered by
Q 45: Lambda Phi Omega Chapter's Growth Opportunities for Improvement Answered: 46 • • PEARL DAY - "I would love to see Pearl Day tickets included in our dues. We have not been very successful with our assessments, for numerous reasons, however we are always wanting the chapter to support the Pearl Day event. This "assessment" will ensure participation and bring the event to a new level. It becomes difficult to support a formal affair every year with rising costs for tickets, attire and guests. Pearl Day should be considered our signature event. Just my thoughts. " PROGRAMMING - "While scholarship is important/wonderful. Everyone is giving scholarships. We need to do better at addressing community needs and spending our dollars there so that more students can focus on their education not their needs. " PROGRAMMING - "Community outreach must be strengthened. Providing educational opportunities at no cost to the community will help us grow and receive additional community support and recognition. " OPERATIONS - "Incorporate the use of technology into more operational practices to make processes more efficient (e. g. , webex, accounting system, electronic documents that can be submitted electronically, better use of the website)" OPERATIONS - "To make sure we are being more timely when holding our Chapter meetings. " OPERATIONS - "Encourage the members to follow the 12 guiding principles and enhance them during the next 3 years. " OPERATIONS - "How we conduct Chapter meetings and give reports. " DEVELOPMENT- "Stop breaking protocol by selecting sorors for positions they are not qualified to perform. Start grooming and mentoring different sorors (succession planning) to fulfill positions they are truly qualified to perform and not just because you are friends. " Powered by

" DEVELOPMENT - "Work on identifying talents and skills of sorors , then match to projects so more participation will be possible" FUNDRAISING - "think of more creative ways to fundraise collectively as an organizations" FUNDRAISING - "Establish projects that will increase funds and grow the foundation. " RECRUITMENT-"Identifying skills needed to move the chapter forward then seeking out individuals with those skills and who may have an interest in considering becoming members. " MEMBERSHIP - "Increase membership of strong, hardworking and dedicated women that will work to accomplish the mission and goals of the chapter. This would allow the sorors to remember the love. " MEMBERSHIP - "More Sorors need to become more involved in the initiatives put forth by the chapter. I feel like many of the same Sorors carry the load with volunteering, fundraising, and supporting programs and activities. Many time Sorors rather write a check instead of actively raising funds and participating in activities, projects, etc. We need support from all of the Sorors, not just a few. " Powered by
Q 46: ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Answered: 10 • • • GENERAL - "I am very proud of our chapter and will continue to help as long as I am able. " GENERAL - "Continue to provide meaningful service to all mankind!" GENERAL - "Overall, I believe our chapter is one of the best chapters in AKA history!" FUNDRAISING - "I think we need to be careful that we do not overlap fundraising initiatives and that we remain mindful of Sorors financial responsibilities---increase of dues at the national level, regional assessment and chapter dues payments occurring within months of each other and during two of the chapter's big funding initiatives. I also feel that when initiatives are made the membership is asked to decide quickly and without sufficient information to make an informed decision. " FUNDRAISING - "Start building partnerships that can be financially advantageous, i. e. , sponsorships, donations and/or money draw due to their name or cause. Start writing and seeking grants for our community outreach or community workshops/services. " MEMBERSHIP - "I think it is important to pay more attention to our more seasoned Sorors (Golden, Silver and soon-to-be diamond Sorors)" OPERATIONS - "keep better records for deadlines; keep current and keep communicating" OPERATIONS - "I love being able to complete the survey this way. It would be a good way to complete in the chapter meeting. Very green!" PROGRAMMING - "As a chapter we need to focus on impactful projects as opposed to a lot of little projects. Larger projects would also allow participation by a larger number of members. " PROGRAMMING - "There a lot of activities going on and it is hard to be able to participate in them all. After doing this survey, I'll do a better job in participating. " Powered by
