Family � In the family section the mothers are clan mothers. � They are also in charge of farming. � The Mohawk men are chiefs , and they are In charge of hunting, trading, and war.
Tools and medicine � The Mohawk had a traditional medicine that was made out of trees. � They also made tools out of stone. � For example they had stone adzes, feint knives, and more.
Clothing � The Mohawk men wore breechclouts or breechcloths. � Women wore wraparound skirts with leggings. � Both men and women wore moccasins on their feet.
Area lived, language, and transportation � The Mohawk are the original people of new York. � They used to speak native Mohawk language but now speak English. � They also used canoes to get around.
Food and Farming � The Mohawk do not farm very much. � But when they do they plant beans, corn, and squash. � They also go hunting and fishing for food.
Shelter The Mohawk lived in a longhouse that had two doors no windows. � Sixty people in a longhouse is a entire clan , and the longhouse would have to be one hundred feet long to have a entire clan in it. � It is made out of wooden framework and tied together with wooden splints or rope. �
Hunting and Gathering � The Mohawk kids like to go hunting with their fathers. � When they hunt they use bows, and arrows. � The things they gather are wild plants, berries, seeds, and nuts. � When people fish they use spears , and fishing poles.
Games and Entertainment � Kids played with each other, and also with toys. � The girls played with cornhusk dolls. � The boys played a game where you try to throw a bow in a moving hoop. � Lacrosse was also a popular game that they played.
Ceremonies and Festivals � The Mohawk have many festivals through out the year. � The biggest festival they have is the new years festival. � They celebrate by singing , dancing, praying, and play games.
