What is FCCLA? FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA was founded in 1945 It is a national career and technical organization for students in Family & Consumer Sciences education. There are over 200, 000 members and 5, 500 chapters around the United States, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Who can Become a Member? ØAny student in middle school or high school who has taken a Family and Consumer Sciences course is eligible to become an active member in FCCLA. ØThe student will have to pay state and national dues in order to be an official member.

Membership Dues National Dues for FCCLA are $9 per member. State dues vary, but for the state of Texas dues are $7. If a student wanted to become a member of FCCLA and they lived in Texas, the total amount of membership dues will be $16 ($9 for national dues plus $7 for state dues).

FCCLA Programs FCCLA has a variety of different national programs in which students can participate.

Benefits of Joining FCCLA Leadership Participation in FCCLA’s programs and activities can help members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities. Career Preparation FCCLA can help students develop the proper employability skills needed to become successful in the workplace. Travel As a member of FCCLA, students have the opportunity to travel across the country to different conventions, competitions and meetings.

Benefits Cont. Community Service FCCLA members have the opportunity to help others in their community. Recognition Through some of FCCLA’s competitive events, and service projects students can get recognized for their achievements. Scholarships FCCLA offers several scholarships based on leadership, academic excellence and community service.
