Stratus Clouds Flat sheets of grayish clouds that are low in the sky. They look like fog. What weather do they bring?
Nimbus Clouds Talk dark gray clouds What weather do they bring?
Why are clouds white? Clouds reflect the light of the sun. Light is made up of colors of the rainbow and when you add them together you get white.
Why do clouds turn gray? Clouds are made of tiny water droplets or ice crystals! If the clouds are thick or high enough, all the light does not make it through, making the cloud gray or dark.
How do clouds form? All air contains water but near the ground it is in the form of an invisible gas called water vapor. Some of the water vapor becomes tiny pieces of dust that float around in the air. When billons of these droplets come together they form a cloud.
To make a cloud you need 3 things: Water vapor (moisture) to build a cloud Cooling Air for water vapor to condense Dust particles where condensation can form water droplets. Now, cup your hands around your mouth and exhale into your hand. (warm and moist like a cloud)
