What we plan to do: • New TPC readout system (ALICE) • New ITS air dryer (EN-CV) • Replace PX 24 lift (EN-HE) • Wiener LVPS consolidation (ALICE) • Dipole cooling system consolidation (ALICE) • Both magnets will stay off for the entire YETS duration A. Tauro - ALICE 3

New TPC readout system (RCU 2) • All TPC sectors to be equipped with new RO boards 230 x • Will speedup (factor 2) the TPC readout rate • Resources: ALICE personnel • Work takes place inside L 3: 3 -4 weeks in total • Requires RP check TPC cooling plant (DGS-RP, 14 Dec) A. Tauro - ALICE 4

New ITS air dryer (EN-CV) • Present plant installed in 2012, sitting on surface (SX 2) • Issues: not able to provide AH in the range 1 to 1. 5 g/kgas and lack of reliability • Plan: build new plant & new pipe with proper insulation • Reuse existing electrical/cooling infrastructure • Technical/planning meeting with EN-CV next Friday morning Dessica unit (SX 2) A. New PX 24 lift (AS-703, EN-HE) • First lift being replaced at CERN • Schedule (Damien): from the 14 th of December 2015 to the 7 th of February 2016 (including CERN closure) • Require opening of PX 24 shaft (EN -HE) • ALICE personnel will use PM 25 lift safety discussion with BE DSO next Friday morning A. EN-HE • ALTEAD: riggers for PX 24 blocks manipulation • Access restrictions during transport operations! A. Tauro - ALICE 7

Wiener LVPS consolidation • Large cracks observed on cooling connectors (PH-ESE) • Systematic (preventive) replacement of all connectors • Extraction of 220 LVPS and rework them on site • Pressure test + basic electrical test afterwards • Resources: ALICE + 2 technicians from SPIE (EN-MEF contract) during Dec-Jan • Concerns all experiments A. Consolidation Dipole cooling system • During RUN 2 Dipole tripped once due to a leak (UX 25), on 31 -May-15 • Faulty connections on Dipole side • Issue: pipe is weakly supported, and water tightness compromised • Modification: add insert inside each connection in order to hold the pipe • Resources: ALICE + EN-CV-OP (for purging/refilling circuits) A. Beampipe • EN-MEF: survey of RB 24/1 chamber • TE-VSC: close/open manual valve. Experimental beampipe stays under vacuum A. Tauro - ALICE 10

CERN closure (w 52&53) • Very little activity from ALICE personnel • As usual, we will have daily ‘ronde’ at P 2 • No one in the ARC phone (77702) diverted to either my phone or LEXGLIMOS/Deputy LEXGLIMOS phone • Lift replacement will take place also during the CERN Xmas closure • Safety tests (GS-ASE) planned on Dec-24 th • Access mode in restricted with CCC delegation (block nearly all IMPACTs) • Access mode in general during the rest of the YETS A. Safety • We plan to stop all underground flammable gases (HMP and MTG) on Monday Dec 14 th • Ar-H 2 will be replaced by ARCAL 10 during CERN closure (SG 2) A. Tauro - ALICE 14
