Algebra 2 Ch. 0 Algebra Review Day 1
What We’re (Re)Learning 1. Plotting numbers on a number line 2. Evaluating with Order of Operations 3. Evaluating with Order of Operations w/ Substitution 4. Simplifying expressions with Like-terms and the Distributive Property 5. Solving an Equation for a Variable
Why We’re (Re)Learning To pass Algebra 2, we’ll need a reasonable command of Algebra 1 skills. Plus, your performance will help to inform me on where I need to spend more time teaching and where I can move quickly through. MA 5. 2. 2. a Interpret and evaluate numerical or algebraic expressions using order of operations (excluding exponents). MA 8. 1. 1. d Approximate, compare, and order real numbers (both rational and irrational) and order real numbers both off and on the number line. MA 8. 2. 2. a Solve multi-step equations involving rational numbers with the same variable appearing on both sides of the equal sign.
Plotting on a Number Line •
Order of Operations (PEMDAS) 1. Start by simplifying whatever is in parentheses. 2. Evaluate all the exponents. 3. Go through the expression from left to right doing multiplying and dividing. 4. Go through the expression from left to right again doing any adding and subtracting.
Simplifying Algebraic Expressions •
Simplifying Algebraic Expressions •
Solving for a Variable 1. Do the Distributive Property. 2. Combine Like Terms. 3. Move Constants to one side and Variables to the other. 4. Divide/Multiply by the Coefficient in front of the Variable.
