Introduction • • • Name: Alfred Lord Tennyson Born on august 6, 1809 British poet Born at Somersby, Lincolnshire. He was the best and the most known poet in the English literature.
Early Years • Some men in his family had a form of epilepsy. • Brother and father had excessive drinking. • Another brother went to mental institution. • Alfred spent few weeks under doctors care.
Education • Attended Louth Grammar School for 4 years. • Later on went to Scaitcliffe School, Englefield Green. • Alfred went to Trinity College, Cambridge. • Tutored by William Whewell. • Joined The Apostles.
Career and Accomplishments • First poem, “Poems by Two Brothers”. • Next book, Poems, did not receive good comments. • In Memoriam was his next poem and was successful. • "The Lady of Shalott", "The Lotus-eaters" "Morte d'Arthur" and "Ulysses" established his reputation as a writer. • Later on, he wrote a series of historical verse plays.
Personal life • Married to Emily Sellwood. • Two children. • His best friend was Arthur Hallam. • Arthur died at the age of 22 • His death Inspired him to write In Memoriam.
Late Years • Alfred Tennyson continued to write until his death. • He died at the age of 83 (October 6, 1982) • Buried in the Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.
