Middle School Jumpstart Session Dates: August 5 th or August 13 th Time: 9: 00 – 11: 00 am Who may attend? Grade 6 and/or new to middle school students Transportation: Parent/guardian drop off and pick-up Is it mandatory? It is voluntary to attend.

Emphasis on regulating emotions so not to distract from academic-related priorities. ■ Increased Rigor: Emphasis on the application of knowledge, rather than recall across all content area classes.

Incoming 9 th Grade Transition • An updated Physical Examination for 9 th Grade is needed (any exam done after Aug. 31, 2017 will be accepted). *Exception is DIAA Sports Physicals: A sports physical must be completed after April 1, 2019 and submitted to school by July 31, 2019. • Considering a fall sport? Reach out to the coach for summer workout/training opportunities. Fall sports/tryouts begin August 15 th. • Interested in Marching Band/Color Guard? Reach out to the Band/Color Guard Directors for summer dates • Look for part-time job/volunteering/job shadowing opportunities

Other Suggestions • Encourage your student to develop meaningful relationships in high school (peers, teachers, school counselors, coaches) • Stress with your student the importance of surrounding him/herself with like-minded peers who share common goals • Be sure your student can tell the difference between a healthy relationship and an unhealthy relationship • Encourage involvement in sports, clubs/activities, student organizations
