Albuquerque Public Schools Curriculum & Instruction What is SAT? Presented by: SAT Liaison Heather Dadey Email: dadey_h@aps. edu Office: (505)855 -9985 Cell: (505)203 -7351
What is SAT? • SAT stands for Student Assistance Team • SAT is collective group of individuals working together to identify and provide students researched based intensive interventions. These intensive interventions should help the student close the achievement gap, allowing them to be successful in a REGULAR EDUCAITONAL SETTING. • SAT IS NOT THE GOLDEN TICKET TO SPECIAL EDUCATION
Who Makes Up the SAT? • • • A SAT Chair who is not a SPED employee. Student Teachers Parents Counselors Health and Wellness Representative Admin Nurse SLP (if available) School Contact Diag.
Responsibility of SAT Chair • Determining which students are in SAT and where in the process are they from previous year or school. • Schedule SAT meetings with Parent, Teachers, and other attendees • Host SAT meetings • Collect appropriate forms and paperwork from teachers, and parents. • Reviewing, uploading, and updating SAT file through Synergy • Working with reviewers to make sure all forms are complete.
What do I need to do ASAP as SAT Chair • Make sure you are getting PAID! Talk to your Admin ▫ ES/MS. 1 Contract ▫ HS Stipend • Request School Wide Synergy Access through your principal. They will need to email SIS@aps. edu and request access. • If you are new make sure your contact information is correct on Canvas (will go over in future training) • Find where SAT files are located at schools site. There maybe paper and electronic files. • Create a Master Electronic SAT Calendar • Lastly, realize this is a full time job on top of a full time job – breath you will survive!

Albuquerque Public Schools Curriculum & Instruction What is Tier 1 and Teir 2? Presented by: SAT Liaison Heather Dadey Email: dadey_h@aps. edu Office: (505)855 -9985 Cell: (505)203 -7351
Tier 1 • Whole group instruction, starting first day of school. • Students are identified through Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) process or teacher’s professional judgment. • Teacher provides professional teaching strategies: ▫ Pre/First Teach ▫ Sheltered Instruction ▫ Differentiated Instruction • Forms for SAT ▫ R 1 – Teacher Completes (This changes for parent request please watch video pertaining to forms) 1 strategy 6 weeks progress monitoring 3 Data points ▫ R 1 - Behavior Only 1 Week of Monitoring Every teacher monitors Focus on ONE BEHAVIOR – safety priority.
Tier 2 • What is Tier 2: ▫ Small Group Instruction ▫ Research Based Curriculum (I-Station, I-Ready, ST Math, Benchmark, Stepping Stones, Tier 2 Fundations, Read 180, etc. ) • Progress monitoring: 1 intervention per area of concern lasting 8 weeks for academics/lasting 6 weeks for behavior with 4 data points for academics/with completed B 2 for behavior • Tier 2 never stops until placed in Special Education or exited from SAT. If exited from special education, then student is placed back in Tier 2. If student Qualifies in at least one area of testing, Tier 2 GOES through the IEP Team for the non-qualifying areas. If student does not qualify in any area, the student is returned to SAT for Tier 2. • ACCURATE TIER 2 IS MORE IMPORTANT THAT EVER!!
Tier 2 Continued • Additional 90 -120 minutes per week (COVID-19 Green) ▫ ▫ Small Group 20 minutes everyday for elementary 20 minutes, three times a week for Middle and High School If students are in pull outs or strategy classes this makes up your Tier 2 minutes.
Strategy vs. Instructional Interventions • Strategy ▫ Set of methods or activities ▫ Informal ▫ May not be tracked • Instructional Interventions ▫ Intentional – aimed at a particular weakness (data driven) ▫ Specific and formalized (targeted) ▫ Monitored
Tier 2 Teachers Responsibilities to start SAT Complete R 1 and email to your SAT Chair Request vision and hearing from nurse – N 1 (Only for Teacher Request) If EL and has “E” alert in synergy, complete form R 6. If the first two questions on the R 6 are answered “Only English” or “Mostly English”, forms R 7, R 8, and R 9 are not required. • Run IReady/IStation Report for last three assessment cycles and email to SAT Chair. • Please make sure parents are aware of your concerns before the SAT Chair sends the parent letter and survey home!!!!!!! • •
COVID-19 Tier 2 Red Status • Through Google Meet teachers should be meeting in small group to provide Tier 2 intervention to their students. (This counts towards NMPED asynchronized 3 hours) • Teachers providing the Tier 2 intervention should be completing the R 4 form for academics/SLP/Language and the B 2 for behavior. • Teachers can assign IReady, IStation, Read 180, ST Math etc… lessons that can be done on their own. However, human follow-up needs to occur.
COVID-19 Tier 2 Yellow Status • During Hybrid Model – ▫ Tier 2 can occur during asynchronized time through small groups in Google Meet. ▫ Tier 2 can occur at the school site through a pullout teacher ▫ Tier 2 can occur in classroom during scheduled Response to Intervention (RTI) time. • Example – ▫ Student can work at home on STMath software during distance learning week. ▫ Student can meet with teacher in small group where teacher directed interventions are given in areas where STMath reports are showing further need.
What to do with SAT Students from the COVID-19 Closure? • If the SAT file was turned in complete – Yeah Done • If the SAT file was turned in missing the N 2 – Nursing Summary or R 10 – Teacher Observation, contact the nurse to obtain N 2. Have teacher complete the COVID-19 Observation Form (on Canvas under COVID-19 Documents and Forms) in each area of need (Reading and Writing can be done together). Email Diag. centers (emails are under District Contacts on Canvas) with the updated forms. DO NOT UPLOAD N 2 s to Synergy. • If the SAT file was not turned in YOU ARE PICKING UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF – NO STARTING OVER. Schedule a SAT meeting and determine appropriate Tier 2 s for the student. If you had completed some Tier 2 data during the previous year then finish those Tier 2 s if still appropriate for students current placement.
What if students are not attending class/Tier 2 class distant learning classes? • If students are not attending distant learning classes hold a SAT meeting with Teachers, Parents/Legal Guardians, and student. • Inform parents/legal guardians that Tier 2 data is a vital part of determining a need for services. • SAT will complete a Prior Written Notice (PWN) and suspend SAT until attendance is consistent and teacher is able to collect Tier 2 data. ▫ A PWN must be sent home certified mail ▫ A PWN needs to be uploaded into synergy ▫ A copy of the PWN needs to be given to Admin and emailed to SAT Liaison if a parent request.
End of Training Video • Please join me and watch Revised Parent Request Training for SAT Chairs/Teams. • Thanks

First SAT Meeting Procedures Continued • Prior Written Notice (PWN) must be issued to parents in a timely manner is cases where there is a denial of a parent request for testing. ▫ During first SAT Meeting the team will review assessments, attendance, grades, CBMs, etc. . . To determine if there a need in the area in which parents want testing. ▫ If there is not sufficient evidence that testing is needed, then a PWN will be written in that area of that concern. Evidence listed above should be noted on the form as to why refusal of testing is warranted.
