● Stress is something that bothers everyone in their day-to-day life. ● Understanding the type of stress experienced makes it easier for us to deal with it.
● According to stress reduction specialist- Dr Karl Albrecht, there are 4 types of stress: ○ ○ Time Stress Anticipatory Stress Situational Stress Encounter Stress
The 4 Types of Stress
1. Time Stress ● This stress is experienced mainly when a work have to be completed within a certain period of time. ● Results in important steps being missed or quality being reduced.
How to Overcome? ● Make use of to-do lists. ● The list should contain the tasks to be completed and the expected time required to finish them. ● Tasks should be completed based on their priorities. ● Avoid working on complex tasks, late at night.
2. Anticipatory Stress ● This stress is associated with the events that haven’t even occurred yet. ● It is the result of the uncertainty of future events, personal responsibilities or new processes introduced in the work pattern.
How to Overcome? ● Learn to deal with contingency plans ● Prepare to face and reduce such issues that have a possibility to happen. ● Should have positive future planning.
3. Situational Stress ● This stress occurs in situations where people feels powerless due to lack of support. ● They stop believing in themselves ● Rejected opinions and being not prepared for it can result in this stress.
How to Overcome? ● Proper communication will be of great help. ● Have control over your emotions and actions as it will help you to find a solution to such problems.
4. Encounter Stress ● This stress is experienced while dealing with people who are difficult to handle. ● Nervousness will also be felt when such people are your seniors.
How to Overcome? ● Develop strong interpersonal skill as it will help in overcoming such situations. ● Improve your emotional intelligence.
