School Years • Einstein was slow to learn the spoken language and in his youth showed a tendency to repeat his sentences quietly to himself. This habit contributed to speculations that Einstein was mentally handicapped. • Attended the Luitpold Gymnasium until he dropped out at 15 dismissing the faculty as controlling, the students as submissive and the material as repetitive. • Applied to Federal Polytechnic was denied. Passed the Matura (a Swiss secondary diploma) In preparation for college. Once again expressing his distaste because the exam forced him to learn things he didn’t care to know.
