Presentation Objectives • To increase clubmembers’ awareness of the needs and responsibilities required to conduct a successful Hunt Test • This presentation describes duties and responsibilities as outlined in “Regulations & Guidelines for AKC Hunting Tests for Retrievers”

Hunt Test Chairman • Secures Judges for the Event ▫ Assures point requirements are met ▫ Confirms travel and lodging • Sources birds to be used • Arranges for ribbons and judges gifts • Assigns key personnel ▫ Marshalls ▫ Gun Captain ▫ Bird Steward
Hunt Test Chairman (cont’d) • Coordinates club flyer (welcome letter) to accompany Premium List • Inspects grounds week before test and reviews landowner’s special restrictions • Designates specific areas �Camping �Headquarters �Exercise (Airing) • Serves on HT Committee • Approves bills for payment • Ensures that all equipment is on hand

Hunt Test Secretary (aka: “She who does most of the work. . . ”) • • • Files HT application with the AKC Receives entries Sorts entries by testing levels Prepares the catalog Supplies judges’ books Maintains and submits all records to the AKC �Ensures that catalogs are properly marked �Ensures that all certifications are complete �Ensures that all qualifying scores are recorded and submitted
Hunt Test Secretary (cont’d) • Makes necessary hotel and travel arrangements • Completes and files HT Secretary’s Report with the AKC • Submits all records within 7 days of Event • Sends a marked catalog to the Retriever Field Trial News
Hunt Test Committee • Must include at least 5 people who will attend the test for its duration ▫ ▫ ▫ Jerry Moulden Chet Beatty Marty Thompson Greg Loshe Mark Littlejohn • During the test, the Committee carries the power and authority of the American Kennel Club • Investigates reports of misconduct (AKC Guide for Event Committees in Dealing with Misconduct)
Marshalls • Are in charge of their assigned stake’s mechanics, equipment and personnel (excluding judges) • On day prior, meets judges and helps prepare for test
Marshalls (cont’d) As it pertains to his/her stake, are responsible for: ▫ Equipment (as specified by judges) ▫ ▫ ▫ Birds Signage Trash Holding blinds Asst Marshall ▫ ▫ ▫ Traffic control Parking Gallery Control Radios Passes Judges communications to Gallery, Workers and Entrants
Marshalls (cont’d) • Food for judges and birdboys • Rebirding • Coordinates move to next series • As announcer for judges: ▫ Manages reruns ▫ Calls for test dogs ▫ Lines up dogs per the draw* ▫ Arranges for pick-up and bye dogs ▫ Records scratches * Marshalls must be aware of other stakes’ needs as well as those of multi-dog handlers in order to assure the overall success of the event.
Marshalls (cont’d) • Post Event: ▫ ▫ ▫ Returns club equipment to headquarters Takes down and returns signs Trash detail Accounts for radios Participates in Judges’ awarding of ribbons
Schedule • Week before Event: ▫ Inspect grounds to confirm location of Headquarters, tests, facilities, entrances and offlimits areas ▫ Supervise any improvements or other changes to grounds ▫ Confirm bird count
Schedule • Day before Event: ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ Deliver trailer Set up HQ Accompany judges to stakes areas for test set-ups Put out Signs Band birds Rope off restricted areas Judges dinner
Schedule • Saturday: ▫ HQ Personnel �Handler info �Distribute catalogs �Event layout / map ▫ Marshalls accompany Judges �Collect final equipment �Ducks �Judges books ▫ Clean-up ▫ Set-up Sunday tests
