What is air pollution ? • Air is a mixture of many gases including: Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, Water Vapor and “trace” gases. • Any change in the atmosphere that has harmful effects is called air pollution. • Any substance that causes pollution is called a pollutant.
What are the sources of air pollution? • mobile sources – such as cars, buses, planes, trucks, trains … • stationary sources – such as power plants, oil refineries, industrial facilities, and factories. • area sources – such as agricultural areas, cities, and wood burning stoves. • natural sources – such as wind-blown dust, wildfires, and volcanoes.
