Aims and Objectives Aims • To recognise the needs of riding correct shapes and lines in the arena. • To be aware of correct shapes & their position in the arena. • What factors have an influence on this? Objectives The student should be able to: • Explain and discuss the benefits of correct riding of shapes for both the horse and rider.

Why do we need to ride accurately ? Helps improve our balance as riders Improves control Helps improve the balance of the horse Helps communication between the rider & the horse Helps forwardness Improves rhythm Makes the rider more aware of the horses way of going

A few basic rules when riding shapes • • Know your arena, the dimensions and where the letters or markers are Always ride your corners All circles must be round, not "squaricles” There are no straight lines in a circle • All straight lines must be straight • All movement around the school must be accurate • Go from marker to marker • All sizes of circles must be planned ahead
Assessment • Produce a wall display showing the correct position for shapes and movements with in the arena • You can use what we have done and also research and additional information as you choose • Incorporate pictures of riders riding correct shapes etc.
