Shape Layers Shape layers consist of two parts The first part is the fill The fill determines the color or colors, pattern, and transparency of the layer The second part is the shape The shape is a layer mask that defines the areas in which the fill can be seen and those areas where the fill is hidden Today we will be using defined custom shapes to add a shape to the Poster You can add or subtract the fill from a shape layer
Steps Once you have merged the saucer into the 10 start image move the sauce layer to the top Make sure that the foreground color is set to white Delete the Retro Shape Guide Layer Click on the pen tool and select the custom shape tool In the shape box click the arrow and a selection menu pops out Click the arrow at the top right and scroll down until you see all and click on all Scroll down until you see the black crescent moon next to the diamond shape
Steps Select that shape Click and drag to draw the shape Name the layer moon and move it down the layers palette so that it is right above the background layer In the Layers palette click on the eye icon on the Star Guide You may need to reposition the star guide so that it is inside the white of the moon
Steps In the Paths palette, make sure that the Retro Shape Vector Mask is selected In the tool box, select the Polygon tool, hidden under the rectangle tool on the tool options bar , do the following For sides, type 11 Click the Geometry Options arrow located to the left of the sides option to open the Polygon Options. Select the Star check box, and type 50% in the indent Sides
Steps Select the subtract from shape area option Move the crosshairs over the orange dot in the center of the orange circle in the image window, and click and drag outward until the tips of the star rays touch the circle’s perimeter In the layers palette, click the eye icon for the star guide layer to hide it Deselect the Star Guide Layer by clicking on the eye icon
