AIM OF THE PROGRAMME • The Aim of the National Cadet Shooting Programme is to develop cadets’ interest in shooting while promoting the safe and proficient use of firearms for sport and recreational purposes. Level One 421. 01 OHP # 1

SAFETY CATCH & SECURITY MEASURES • The safety catch is located just in front of the trigger, on the trigger guard. • To engage the safety catch, push towards the right; the safety catch is ON and the red cannot be seen. • When you are ready to fire, push the safety catch towards the left; safety catch is OFF and the red is now showing. • For maximum security, it is recommended that you keep the safety catch engaged until the moment you are ready to fire the first shot of a practice. There are three instances where which have different procedures for “Safe Rifle Status”. • Option 1: In Rifle Case • Option 2: On Firing Line • Option 3: Not on Firing Line Level One 421. 01 OHP # 3

SAFETY REGULATIONS • Always treat a rifle as if it is loaded. • Never point a rifle at anyone. • Always point the rifle in a safe direction. • Keep fingers off the trigger unless ready to fire. • Always wear hearing protectors. • The wearing of safety glasses or shatterproof eyeglasses is mandatory when firing.
