Agriscience Course Syllabus Coach White Welcome to agriscience! During this course we will be learning about the FFA and vocational careers. This class is designed for you to enjoy, but it will be what you make of it.
Supplies Needed 3 -ring binder- a large binder with clips in it so papers can be added and removed. This will be used to keep chapter notes, handouts, lab papers, drawings, etc. It will be checked periodically and must be brought to class everyday. This notebook will count for 2 test grades at the end of each grading period. Pencil and Pen- have both with you every day. Pens should be blue or black ink. Colored pencils- Any type containing at least the basic colors. These will be used for drawings and illustrations. Make sure you have a red colored pencil or pen. Textbook- Students will be issued textbooks during the first week of class. Textbooks must be brought to class every day. At the end of the semester students will be responsible for lost or damaged textbooks. Note cards- each student will need 2 -3 packs of 4 x 6 note cards for grad exam review.
Grading Students will be graded each day on a warm up quiz that will cover the material that we have been covering in the current chapter. Daily grades may also be taken on work that is done and turned in during the class or for homework. Daily grades are averaged and will count 15% of the final grade. Chapter tests will be given at the end of each topic that we are studying. Chapter tests will count 85% of the final grade. Notebooks will be taken up at the end of each grading period and will count for 2 test grades. Students will all begin the 9 weeks with a 100 for a conduct and participation grade. During the grading period students will lose points if the teacher has to reprimand the student for any reason. (ex. Turning around in seat, talking, leaving seat, etc. ) At the end of the grading period if a student has an 80 or above for the conduct and participation grade that student will be allowed to drop their lowest test grade. Extra credit will be given at certain times only during the grading period. Extra credit will not be given the last week of grading once a student finds out he or she is not doing well.
Make Up Work The student is responsible for all make up work. Each student will need to have someone in the class that will be their homework partner. When a student returns from being absent he or she will need to find out what work was missed from their partner. When a student finds out what work was missed the student can come to the teacher before or after class to request any handouts they may need. If a test is missed the student will need to schedule a time at break or after school to make it up. If the test is not made up within 5 days of the students return the grade will be recorded as a zero. The teacher is not required to remind the student of this. If an absence is unexcused the student will not be able to make up the test. Students can look up notes and print on coachwhitesclass. weebly. com.
Behavior You will be expected to do the assigned work in this class and have a mature attitude toward the subject matter. I will expect you to act as an adult and follow all school and classroom policies. Roll Call- Roll call will begin immediately after the tardy bell rings. If you are not in your seat when the tardy bell rings you are late. All students will remain quiet and answer to their names. Some teachers will check silently using a seating chart. Seating Arrangements- Students will sit in their assigned seats except during group work or labs. The teacher makes all the seating arrangements and may choose to change this at any time. Leaving Class- students are to use the restroom and water fountain between classes. If a student must leave class this will result in a break detention the following day or essay except in the case of a medical problem. If there is a medical problem that causes you to need to leave the room often I will need a note.
Interruptions- During any matter in which I must stop teaching, students are expected to sit quietly. Do not greet visitors in a loud disruptive manner. Teachers Materials- Students are not to use my desk or any of my personal materials without my express permission. Beginning Class- Students are to enter the classroom in a mature manner and be seated quietly at their assigned desk. Activities for the day will be listed on the board. Students should not come in and ask what we are doing that day. Ending Class- Students are not to pack up materials unless their assignments have been totally completed or instructed to do so by the teacher. Students will remain in their seat until instructed to leave by the teacher. Fire and Tornado Drills- Students will remain quiet and orderly following my instructions to line up and proceed to the designated area. Watch and listen to me. Student Talk- Students will raise their hand to be recognized. During discussions other students will listen to the student who has the floor (my permission). Talking among students is not acceptable during whole class discussion or lecture. During group projects and teamwork talking between students on issues relevant to the study topic is expected. Attention- Students are expected to maintain their attention to the speaker or audio-visual media during any presentation.
5 Basic Classroom Rules 1. Be on time. 2. Do not talk or leave seat without permission. 3. No food drink or gum in the classroom. 4. Bring all materials to class everyday. 5. If you break a rule you take the punishment.
