“Cultural Revolution’’ (1966 -- 76) Schools, colleges closed for years Students sent to countryside My own experience: 07/29/05 missed high school did farming for 2. 5 years did pluming work for 2 years then went to college for 3. 5 years assigned a major to civil engineering 4

Love what you choose to do, treasure the opportunity, do the best you can. Nothing is easy. You must be willing to work harder than others. 07/29/05 6

Ideal advisees Love what you do, or do what you love. And do what you are good at. Try to be a self-starter, self-motivator. Advices aren’t instructions, follow most of times but do more. Have own initiatives. You earn the degree, we help. Be willing to work really hard. Nobody is perfect, but anybody can work hard. 07/29/05 7
