Mood • What do I mean by the word, “mood”? – I’m in a bad mood. – My mom is in a good mood. • When we read, mood has a different meaning. – It’s how the audience is supposed to feel about what they read. – It is the emotion that the author is trying to get across.
Mood Vocabulary • Mood is always labeled by emotion words – Mad: angry or annoyed – Afraid: frightened or scared – Disgusted: annoyed or upset because of something that you think is completely unacceptable – Surprised: feeling that something unexpected happened – Excited: happy, interested, or hopeful because something good has happened or will happen – Confused: unable to understand clearly what someone is saying or what is happening – Peaceful: calm, quiet, and without problems or excitement
Mood Vocabulary – Proud: feeling pleased because you think that something you have achieved or are connected with is very good – Bored: tired and impatient because you do not think you have anything interesting to do – Depressed: very sad – Guilty: ashamed and sad because you have done something that you know is wrong – Disappointed: unhappy because something you hoped for did not happen or because something or someone was not as good as you expected – Optimistic: believing that good things will happen in the future

Journal • At the very end of Act IV there is a brief scene between Peter (the Nurse’s servant) and some musicians. Why do you think Shakespeare included it, since it isn’t part of the plot? • Remember: 3 -4 sentences!!!
Act IV Project • Pick one of the following projects to complete for Act IV: – Where’s Romeo? – Shakespeare doesn’t include Romeo in this part of the play. Why do you think he did this? What’s the purpose of focusing only on Juliet and her “death”? – Telling lies – in Scene 2 Juliet lies to her father. Do you think it is always wrong to lie to your parents? Why or why not? (Include examples)
