Coaching Philosophy

Coaching Philosophy Expectations: o We firmly believe that our practice plans translate into habits o Our goal is to prepare our players for both success on and off the field o We will implement multiple drills, routines and offensive/defensive strategies used by some of the best high schools and colleges in the country o We will develop scripted practice schedules for each and every practice • We are investing a lot of time, preparation and energy into each and every practice… miss a day miss a lot! o Practice times o The schedule is week to week controlled by the CF Athletic Dept. o Time will depend based on the weather - indoor or outdoor • Our time (5: 30 -7) will be the regular time slot (outdoor) Film to follow o We will practice rain or shine

Coaching Philosophy Expectations: o We expect every player to be on-time o If practice starts at 5: 30 pm, we expect every player to be dressed and ready to go at start stretching at 5 pm o Any missed practices or games must be approved by the coaching staff o Excused absence • If you are too sick to come to go to school, you will not practice or play in a game o Examples of unexcused absences: o I have tickets to a Cavs Game o I have dodge ball o I have a date o I have a driving test o Get your homework completed in between the end of school and practice

Coaching Philosophy Playing Time: o Merit Based System 1. Team Development* • We may ask certain players to switch positions • We will play the best players regardless of grade 2. Playing to Win/Player Development 3. Our team goal is to win a State Championship o Grievances - We ask that you please understand that we have only the best interest of the team in mind • We will handle all issues coach to player • During the season we will not discuss Playing Time with any Parent • During a game the field and bench area is reserved for team personnel only. 4. You make the teams I don’t. Come ready. Be in shape and hit the wall.

Coaching Philosophy Game & Practice Uniform: o Home & Away Jerseys will be provided for both Varsity & JV o One (1) shooting shirt /sweatpants will be included into fees o Every player is expected to wear team practice gear § Practice Pinnie will be provided § Must wear: § Black/Grey practice shorts § White/Black under shirt, or shooting shirt § If these rules are not followed the players will be sent home

Coaching Philosophy Leadership & Culture: o We believe that team chemistry is crucial for the short-term and longterm success of this program o It starts with the coaches but needs to come from players o Everyone needs to be on the same page Commitment: o Team First o We believe in playing as a team, which means no one is more important than the team o We will win as a team and lose as a team o We expect 100% effort out of every player

Coaching Philosophy Defensive Philosophy: Our motto on the defensive side of the field is DDR. • Detailed- in our preparation. Film and Field • Disciplined-during play, not let our emotions get the best of us. • Relentless-We want opposing offenses to work for every goal. We want to force the tempo not the other way around. Skills/Attributes • Stick Skills-The misconception is that you need less stick skills to play defense. That is false. With the way that we want to push the ball up field in transition, we need to be part of the action and not just ball taxis. • Acumen. We run around 4 to 5 different sets. We will teach these tactically and visually via field and playbook prep. • Grit- “firmness of character; indomitable spirit. ” This has nothing to do with your stature or abilities. You need to have a mental toughness that will get you through 90 degrees in overtime.

Off-Season

Off-Season Open Gyms/Living Lean ( Winter): Attendance is not mandatory (OHSAA) No scoring or timekeeping is permitted (OHSAA) Coach or supervisor may participate in play The following Sundays have been reserved in the MS Gym. Our time is 4 -6 December 10 th, 17 th January 7 th, 14 th, 21 st, 28 th February 11 th.

2018 Season Information Total estimated cost for 2018 Lacrosse - o Cost per player is $175: 1. Indoor practice time/Session with World Team Member 2. Shooting shirts 3. Sweatpants 4. Senior Night and end of season expenses 5. Food for 2 away games and one visiting team Ø We would like to have all 2018 fees collected as soon as possible as we are ordering team gear • Total cost per player is estimated to be $175

Ways to Help Film - o We use Hudl system o Allows us to film games, upload them into on-line site that can be viewed from any mobile device or computer o Great teaching tool to breakdown game film, competitor film etc. o Create recruiting highlights that can be sent to college coaches directly from the system o Typically, we only film varsity games o WE NEED A VOLUNTEER TO HEAD THIS UP!! Stats - o Requires 3 people – one to call the game, the other to enter stats + a sub o Very effective way of accumulating stats and providing reports for players, coaches & archives

Lacrosse Gear / Spiritwear Lacrosse Gear: o o There will be an online site to order extras for players and parents ¼ pullover zips, hats, sweats Instructions for how to order will come in an email to the entire team Completely OPTIONAL

Other Stuff Yard Signs: • They are $25 • Orders will be taken after rosters are announced Tiger Lacrosse Schedule Poster: o We will be creating a glossy 12”x 18” schedule/poster of this year’s Varsity Lacrosse team o They will be complete after the team photo is taken on Picture Day o The posters will be placed in store windows in town and will be available to purchase for $5. 00

Communication Stay Connected: The Chagrin Athletic site will provide the most current information for players and parents. If you have not signed up, please do so. The rosters, schedules and most recent updates will be posted there throughout the season.
