Year 3 Class Rules 1. 2. 3. 4. The children have helped to devise the class rules and try to abide by the rules every day. Show good manners and consideration for everyone at all times. Be respectful of all people in school. Look after your classroom, playground and school. Concentrate, listen and follow instructions the first time you are asked.

Year 3 Class Expectations As the children get older now and have reached Juniors, it is important that they know our expectations for behaviour and standards of work. All work is to be completed on time, (in school and at home) and to a quality standard. We work hard to make sure presentation is neat and that children have fully understood these expectations. Work will be marked regularly and the children will be expected to respond to marking and feedback to help them make progress. If work is not completed to this Year 3 standard, the children will be expected to spend part of their lunchtime making corrections or finishing work where necessary. The children are given enough time during lessons that this should not be the case, however there may be some exceptions when children have not applied themselves fully.

The children are also expected to behave according to our Class Rules at all times. We do not tolerate any child disrupting their own, or other’s learning. Children who do not follow the Rules can expect to deal with consequences including: time out during breaks, letters home, talks with Miss Creed/Parents. We hope that you will continue to offer your support for these routines. Please feel free to discuss any matters relating to your child with us after school.

Homework is given to the children every WEDNESDAY and should be returned to school the following MONDAY. The children will normally have to complete a piece of English, Maths and RE homework and their work should be completed neatly in their Homework Book. They will also receive spellings, mental maths and handwriting. It is really important that adults check that their child has completed all the homework. Some children will still need help at home to complete their homework but even if they don’t, you should check that your child has understood the work which has been set and if there is a comment that you want to write about how your child has got on, you can do so in the Homework Book. It is very important that the children get used to completing their homework and managing their own time but will need you to help them organise their time.

Homework Club Some children in Year 3 have taken the opportunity to join the Year 3 Homework Club. This is a club supervised by our Teaching Assistants and it gives children the opportunity to have a quiet place to get on with their work. The adults will try and help the children to complete as much work as they can and to help if they get stuck. However, the children will probably need to have extra time at home with you to help finish off their work. The Homework Club only lasts for 45 minutes and the adults will have a large number of children to work with so it’s important that you spend time at home aiding the homework.

Reading Records The children are expected to read for at least 20 minutes per night and fill in the information inside their Reading Record. It is important that an adult checks that their child is reading and signs the reading record daily. Reading records should come into school everyday, but an adult in school will be checking that the reading record is being signed and up to date every day. At the front of the Reading Records we have attached the Assessment Focus sheets. These are to help you focus on an area of the child’s reading and make a comment based on these.

PE Our PE slot is on a Tuesday in school and the correct school PE kits must be available. Children should have a different T Shirt to change. As it’s getting colder, please provide jogging bottoms for the children to wear and the correct sized footwear.

Assertive Mentoring We have had time to discuss with the children their specific termly targets which they are working towards. A copy of these will be given to children to take home.
