Objectives After viewing this training module, you should have an understanding of the following: • History of galvanic currents and modern cosmetic use. • The signs of ageing skin on the body. • Key benefits of age. LOC Galvanic Body Spa when used with age. LOC Body Shaping Gel.

The History of Galvanic Current The “galvanic current” used today for cosmetic and health benefits is named after the Italian scientist, Luigi Galvani who, in 1791, discovered that the body conducts electric currents.

What Is a Galvanic Treatment? For several decades, spa and salon professionals have used gentle galvanic currents in customised treatments to refresh and energise the skin. These treatments require a trained esthetician who uses a large machine with a roller that provides a gentle massaging action to help focus cellular energy and enhance circulation to improve skin clarity and complexion.

How Does a Galvanic Treatment Work? Galvanic treatments use the basic principles that like charges repel each other and opposites attract—similar to magnetic poles. - - - + + Products are formulated to contain key ingredients which carry a positive or negative charge. The instrument is also set to have the same charge as key ingredients in the product. The repelling of like charges “pushes” or facilitates the delivery of key ingredients to the skin. With the careful application of positive and negative galvanic currents to the skin, an esthetician is able to perform a variety of beneficial skin treatments.

Direct (Galvanic) Currents Direct (galvanic) currents can assist in the delivery of like charged key ingredients to the skin by improving osmotic flow. One type of direct current is a pulsating galvanic current which may be better suited for areas found on the body.

Pulsating Galvanic Currents While a constant galvanic current is one that has a steady flow— it does not waver or vary in amplitude*—a pulsating galvanic current is one type of direct current (DC) that varies between two different, pre-established levels. * A PULSATING GALVANIC CURRENT IS NOT AN ALTERNATING CURRENT (AC). WITHIN ALTERNATING CURRENTS, THE POLARITY FLUCTUATES BETWEEN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POLES.

Pulsating Currents for the Body Research has shown pulsating currents can enhance fluid vibration, which, in turn, enhances circulation. Pulsating galvanic currents: • are optimally designed for use on the body where the skin can benefit from enhanced fluid vibration. • aid in stimulating skin to help purify and refresh skin and help reduce the visible signs of skin ageing.

age. LOC Galvanic Body Spa Your body optimised. Newly developed, patent-pending galvanic pulsating technology is optimised to maximise anti-ageing effects on the arms, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. Skin ageing concerns are different on the body, and these areas are less sensitive making it more apt to benefit from and respond to a pulsating galvanic current. It also helps stimulate, purify, and refresh your skin to reduce the visible signs of ageing—for a more contoured, smoother, firmer, youthful looking you today and in the future.

Key Benefits • Aids in delivering key ingredients to the skin • Pulsating galvanic current helps increase movement of fluids to help stimulate, purify, and refresh skin and reduce the visible signs of ageing • Laboratory research demonstrates that treatments with a galvanic current can enhance the delivery of anti-ageing ingredients for up to 24 hours.

Enhanced Features • Automatically adjusts to your skin—provides the optimal current level for your skin. • Enhanced ergonomics—the new shape of the age. LOC Galvanic Body Spa is designed to better follow the contours of the body. • age. LOC conductive surface—features a larger proprietary age. Key Benefits Supported

Key Benefits Supported Aids in delivering key ingredients to the skin • Galvanic currents, or direct currents, can have a positive or negative polarity. Topical formulations can also be formulated to support the ionic charge of key ingredients. By utilising the same charge, galvanic currents can assist in the delivery of charged key ingredients to the skin allowing for a quicker onset of benefits and/or improved benefits over using a product alone.

Key Benefits Supported Optimised pulsating galvanic current helps increase movement of fluids to help purify and refresh skin and reduce the visible signs of ageing • Research has shown that vibrations, including pulsating direct currents, can be a key contributor to increasing the movement of fluids. Physical vibrations can set in motion a chain of events. They first cause physical stimulus to the endothelium which induces the production of nitric oxide (NO). NO causes vasodilatation, resulting in improved blood flow and movement of fluids. Enhanced blood flow more efficiently removes waste and allows more nutrients to be delivered to skin cells, resulting in a youthful, radiant appearance.

Key Benefits Supported Laboratory research demonstrates that treatments with a galvanic current can enhance the delivery of anti-ageing ingredients for up to 24 hours • Nu Skin’s patent-pending discovery, based on carefully controlled research, reveals that galvanic treatments enhance the delivery of key ingredients for up to 24 hours following galvanic treatment, including active ingredients contained in subsequently applied advanced anti-ageing products.
