Preface We make this revision of this, NOI as Vaisnava verse book and study guide, on 2019 July 6. We have marked more Things To Do (TTD) but that will always be the case. “No one ever finished a poem, they just stop working on it”, some French guy.

“Those who are innocent but simply carried away by bad association should be shown favor if they are eager to receive proper instructions from pure devotees. ” NOI-5 “The process of speaking in spiritual circles is to say something upheld by the scriptures. One should at once quote from scriptural authority to back up what he is saying. ” BGp 7. 15

It has long impressed us that the citations in Srila Prabhupada’s Nectar of Instruction are not just some citations to support the ideas there, rather they are the essential citations used by the Acharyas to illustrate the point under discussion

Lord Caitanya has said, bhāla nā khāibe āra bhāla nā paribe: “Do not dress luxuriously and do not eat delicious foodstuffs. ” (Cc. , Antya 6. 236) Premavivarta, chap ter seven, Śrī Jagadānand a Paṇḍita says: vairāgī bhāi grāmyakathā nā śunibe kāne grāmya-vārtā nā kahibe yabe milibe āne. . .

In Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (7. 5. 30), Prahlāda Mahārāja has said: matir na kṛṣṇe parataḥ svato vā … This leads to a little preaching event of Prahlada to his materialistic father that is excellent lesson in the art of preaching.

This is stated in Bhagavad-gītā (9. 13): mahātmānas tu māṁ pārtha … [‘tu’, means but, so this verse is a contrast] Daiva-bhūtātma-hetavaḥ See http: //www. vedabase. com/en/sb/1/10/6 In Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (1. 2. 9) Śrī Sūta Gosvāmī describes the proper human dharma in this way: dharmasya hy āpavargyasya. . . [This introduces several verses to be memorized from SB 1. 2, Suta Siksa] Jīvasya tattva jijñāsā: the real purpose of life… [This is the verse after the previous. Only memorizes this extract to start with? ]

According to Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the endeavor of philosophical speculators to write volumes of books on dry philosophy devoid of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is entirely futile. The work of karmīs who write volumes of books on economic development also falls within the category of atyāhāra. avaśya rakṣibe kṛṣṇa: “Kṛṣṇa will surely protect me and give me help for the successful execution of devotional service. ” This is called confidence. In this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement there are four basic regulative principles, forbidding illicit sex, meat-eating, gambling and intoxication. See SB 1. 17. 38

In the Tenth Canto of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam it is stated: “One must be calmly convinced. . . It is further stated in the Tenth Canto: “Although mental speculators. . Note: In our translation of the Anuvrtti these are sited as Srimad Bhagavatam (10. 2. 32 -33) - “ye ‘nye ‘ravindaksa …”. In the older NOI it said “Seventh Canto”, but in the Vedabase edition it has been changed to 10 th Canto. In Bhagavad-gītā (9. 31), the Supreme Personality of Godhead assures Arjuna, kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati… NOTE: Maybe just this second Pada is enough for memorize. Bhagavad-gītā (2. 40) Kṛṣṇa says: nehābhikrama-nāśo ’sti. . .

Sometimes a person will give up his ordinary material engagements and out of sentiment take shelter of the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord and thus begin the preliminary execution of devotional service. ” See: http: //www. vedabase. com/en/sb/1/5/17 , “tyaktvā svadharmaṁ caraṇāmbujaṁ harer…” As confirmed by Śrīmad. Bhāgavatam (5. 18. 12), NOTE: This is part of the prayers of Prahlada Maharaja, SB 5. 18. 7 -14, this verse is used repeatedly and essential to memorize, and we also have memorized the first verse 5. 18. 7. Maybe you want to memorize the whole Stotra for recitation for Lord Nrsmhadeva.

TEXT FOUR

Bhagavad-gītā (2. 62) it is stated, sańgāt sañjāyate kāmah : one's desires and ambitions develop according to the company one keeps. Caitanya-caritāmr ta (Madhya 22. 107): nitya-siddha kr s n a-prema 'sādhya' kabhu naya śravan ādi-śuddha-citte karaye udaya In the first stanza of His Śrī Śiks ās t aka, Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu says: ceto-darpan a-mārjanam [Cc. Antya 20. 12]

Not only is the chanter of the mahā-mantra purified, but the heart of anyone who happens to hear the transcendental vibration of Hare Kr s n a, Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare is also cleansed. This was explained by T hākura Haridāsa when Caitanya Mahāprabhu inquired from him how living entities lower than human beings can be delivered from material bondage. See CC 3. 3. 67

This was actually proved by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu Himself when He passed through the forest of Jhārikhan d a. See [CC 2. 27] As stated in the First Canto of Śrīmad. Bhāgavatam 1. 2. 6 sa vai pum sām paro dharmo On the contrary, by taking milk and bananas the snake simply becomes more poisonous (kevalam vis a-vardhanam) TTD - Reference

Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu has also warned, vis ayīra anna khāile dus t a haya mana: "By eating food prepared by worldly people, one s mind becomes wicked. See CC 3. 6. 278 within the middle status of devotional service is expected to love the Supreme Personality of Godhead, make friends with the devotees, show favor to the ignorant and reject the jealous and demoniac. See SB 4. 11. 13, but looking for better source, maybe 9 -yogendra

Supposed to spend at least fifty percent of his income on the service of the Lord and His devotees. Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī has set such an example See [CC 2. 19. 7]

TEXT FIVE

Such a a kaniṣṭha-adhikārī is described in the Eleventh Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (11. 2. 47): arcāyām eva haraye The madhyama-adhikārī is described in Śrīmad. Bhāgavatam (11. 2. 46) in this way: īśvare tad-adhīneṣu Note: Maharaja Nimi x Havir (nine yogendras) The process by which a devotee becomes attached to Kṛṣṇa is described in Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Antya 4. 192): dīkṣā-kāle bhakta kare ātma-samarpaṇa, sei-kāle kṛṣṇa tāre kare ātmasama Dīkṣā, or spiritual initiation, is explained in the Bhaktisandarbha (283) by Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī: divyaṁ jñānaṁ yato dadyāt Note: Sanatana said body contaminated with sores.

Fit for initiation … Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (6. 1. 13) prescribes: tapasā brahmacaryeṇa śamena ca damena ca. Tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet: when one is interested in the transcendental subject matter of the Absolute Truth, he should be initiated NOTE: Was cited in purport to Text Three from Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (11. 3. 21) also prescribes: tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam. …how a Vaiṣṇava could be recognized, the Lord replied: prabhu kahe, – “yāṅra mukhe śuni eka-bāra kṛṣṇa-nāma, sei pūjya, – śreṣṭha sabākāra” “If one hears a person say even once the word ‘Kṛṣṇa, ’ that person should be accepted as the best man out of the common group. ” (Cc. Madhya 15. 106) Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu continued: “ataeva yāṅra mukhe eka kṛṣṇa-nāma sei ta ’vaiṣṇava, kariha tāṅhāra sammāna” “One who is interested in chanting the holy name of Kṛṣṇa or who by practice likes to chant Kṛṣṇa’s names should be accepted as a Vaiṣṇava and offered respects as such, at least within one’s mind. ” (Cc. Madhya 15. 111) NOTE; CC 2. 15. 102 -111 are excellent question and answer from Satyarāja Khān all about who is a Vaisnava.

divided devotional service into three categories. śāstra-yukti nāhi jāne dṛḍha, śraddhāvān. . . (Cc. Madhya 22. 67) A madhyama-adhikārī is a śraddhāvān, Caitanya caritāmṛta (Madhya 22. 64): śraddhāvān jana haya bhakti-adhikārī. . Again in Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Madhya 22. 62) it is said: ‘śraddhā’ - śabde – viśvāsa kahe sudṛḍha niścaya NOTE: These are from the same Sanatana siksa series mentioned above. Bhagavad-gītā is to be accepted as it is, … sarvam etad ṛtaṁ manye yan māṁ vadasi keśava. “O Kṛṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. ” (Bg. 10. 14) especially the last instruction: sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja. “Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. ” (Bg. 18. 66)
