AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS AT AMBROSOLI
Why do we offer clubs to our students? • Extend the children’s learning • promote the development of positive relationships among students as well as between students and teachers. • Give children a chance to explore other interests and talents which they would not ordinarily learn during school time.
Club Structure • Three – 11 weeks long sessions per school year • Mon. – Thu. For MP 1, 2 &3 • Start 2. 45 – Finish 3. 45 pm • Reception: -One club/week in session 1, -Two clubs/week in session 2 -Three clubs/week in session 3
Who runs these clubs? • Teachers – 75 – 80 percent • Outside tutors – 15 – 20 percent • Parents – 3 – 5 percent
Process • Collect ideas from the student council • Collect ideas for clubs from teachers • Appeal to parents to come and run clubs • Source and bring in outside tutors with skills and competencies to run clubs

How to select for a club on ECCO? ecco. ambrosolischool. com Step one: When the platform is open for viewing, parents long onto ecco using their family login details to view the clubs on offer and discuss with the children on which clubs they might be interested in. Step two: When the platform is opened for registration, parents then logon and select/register the clubs that they have chosen together with their children Follow the same steps when signing up your child for supervision
School squads. What are they? Teams that are selected after tryouts to represent the school in various engagements at competitive level, International Schools Sports Association Kampala (ISSAK) Activities include: • Session 1 – Sept. – Nov. Basketball – tryouts in Mid March • Session 2 - Dec. - Mar. Swimming, Football – tryouts in Nov. • Session 3 – Mar. – Early Jun. Athletics, cross country tryouts in Feb/Mar. and swimming
What is the selection criteria? • Age group (U 7 – U 11) • Limited numbers set by ISSAK • Facilities at the school • On-going observation are done by the PE team during lessons • Choose a tryout week where we also involve other teachers and coaches, if needed We are looking for children not only with the right skills but also other attributes such as teamwork, resilience, enthusiasm, discipline etc.
Next step! • Send invitation with terms and condition to the selected students • Permission slip returned and practice can commence • List of fixtures sent to parents and any other information
Future plans • Have a swim club at school • Continue to tap into the school community for quality club tutors • Organise more fixtures to cater for the children who don’t usually get a chance to compete in ISSAK – Term 3
