Affirmative Tú Commands Realidades 2: 3 B
Tú commands are actually very easy to form. But the big thing to remember is that affirmative commands are very different from negative commands. Affirmative Commands A tú affirmative command is just the 3 rd person singular indicative form of the verb: hablo hablas hablamos habláis hablan como comemos comes coméis comen come vivo vivimos vives vivís viven
So to form an affirmative command, just go to the 3 rd person singular. . . except for the irregulars: salir decir ser venir sal di sé ven poner hacer ir tener pon haz ve ten To form many of these commands, take the YO form of the present tense and drop the –GO. salir salgo (-GO) sal venir vengo (-GO) ven poner pongo (-GO) pon tener tengo (-GO) ten
y una cosa más… • Did you remember that the yo present tense conjugation of saber is sé? • Now you also know that the affirmative tú command for ser is also sé. • So, how do we tell which one is which? • The context of the sentence will do that. Yo sé el alfabeto en español (saber = I know). I know the alphabet in Spanish. Sé bueno con tus abuelos. (ser = you be). You be good with your grandparents (a command a parent might give to a child).
