What does self-advocacy mean? • Self-advocacy refers to: an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs, and rights. It involves making informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. (Van. Reusen et al. , 1994)

How can I be a successful high school student? 1. Stay organized-come to class with your supplies. 2. Use an agenda to keep track of all of your homework and upcoming projects. 3. Attend school everyday. Even one absence can cause you to fall behind. 4. Get involved at school by joining a group or sports team. 5. Don’t procrastinate and wait until the last minute to do your work. 6. Never give up continue to strive toward accomplishing your goals!
