ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CAD As with all new things there are good points

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CAD As with all new things there are good points and bad points. The introduction of computers into the Technical Drawing sector was no different. Offices and studios had weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of computers over manual drawings.

DISADVANTAGES OF CAD Costs: The initial set up of a CAG network can be expensive due to the purchase of computers and software. Training: All staff must be fully trained on the software at the time of that start up and then continued to be trained along with Software Upgrades. Upgrading: Yearly upgrades from the software companies need to be maintained to ensure the company stays up to date with other companies.

DISADVANTAGES OF CAD Viruses: With most computers having access to the internet computers are very vulnerable to viruses. These could effect the running of your programmes or wipe your memory. Hacking: Again having the computer hooked on to a Network people can hack in and gain access to your files and documents. Stealing or deleting them. Network/Power Outages: Updates within large companies can take place frequently and this can prevent workers from logging on. Also any power problems will effect the work rate.

ADVANTAGES OF CAD Storage: Work can be stored on a computer Hard Drive and Backed Up using a Storage Device. No physical Copies need to kept as they can printed as frequently resulting in no deterioration. Editing: A drawing can be modified and edited easily and quickly. This reduces cost and time issues during construction/manufacture. Detailing: Intricate Details can be added to drawings more accurately using tools such as Zoom and Snap.

ADVANTAGES OF CAD Speed & Quality: CAG Drawings can be created a lot quicker

ADVANTAGES OF CAD Speed & Quality: CAG Drawings can be created a lot quicker than on a Drawing Board. The quality is much higher as there is no chance of smudging when a printer is reducing the Hardcopies. Restoration: With the use of CAG allows hand drawn Drawings from the past to scanned in and stored electronically. Library: A CAD Library Stores symbols that will be used repeatedly and can be used as often as needed. This saves time and effort and ensures consistency as these symbols can be detailed.

ADVANTAGES OF CAD Environmental Issues Recycling: Drawings do not always have to be printed

ADVANTAGES OF CAD Environmental Issues Recycling: Drawings do not always have to be printed out and this will save on paper. Things like The Paperless Office are becoming more popular as work can e-mailed worldwide. Ink replacement: . Instead of old ink cartridges being thrown out they can now be refilled preventing ink cartridges form being sent to land fill sites.
