The Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC)

INPC by the numbers • • • one of the largest health information exchanges in the country clinical data from over 100 separate healthcare entities 18 million patients 7 billion clinical observations “composite” patient records ~66% of Hoosiers are in the INPC. 1990 2000 2018

The opioid data set starting point • data about 2, 331 individuals who died from a drug overdose in Marion County between 2010 and 2018 other data sets • Indiana Addictions Data Core (IADC) data • Emergency Medical Services data • Marion County Jail data • Prescription Drug Monitoring Program data • University of Pittsburgh data – morbidity and mortality outcomes for people assigned to drug-court (for comparison)

Short-term priorities • visualize, characterize, and understand the quality and content of our data set • construct typologies of substance use disorder (SUD) • determine individual trajectories to SUD and death (or away from it) • connect additional data sets for a more complete picture • recruit high-performing collaborators in academia and industry • obtain external funding

How will this help? • construct a rich dataset of individuals who experienced fatal and nonfatal opioid ODs in Marion County • conduct a case control-study to determine the risk factors for death from SUD • identify opportunities for interventions to prevent OD deaths • disseminate knowledge about, and results of our approach, to other AGC projects
