Most historians reject the idea that the Plan alone revived Europe, as a general recovery was already underway, but do believe that the Marshall Plan was extremely important and sped up this recovery. As money/aid to flowed into Europe’s countries, many American corporations saw the European continent as a “new frontier”– an untouched market. Corporations and big businesses went to Europe to make money off of the booming Marshall Plan economies. One of these corporations was Coca-Cola promoted the American way of life, which led to some countries resisting the drink because they feared for a takeover of their culture. For example, French communists spread awareness about Coca-Cola because they felt the company represented Capitalist America

“electronic colonialism”- a theory that states that, just like earlier colonial institutions, such as Great Britain who looked for land to create colonies, now multimedia giants want to capture the eyes, ears and minds of millions of viewers, readers, or listeners. Disney, MTV, Netflix, Comcast, Hollywood, CNN, BBC, Fox, Google, the Internet, and others--all seek to influence, not with force or weapons, but by packaging media to attract large audiences for advertisers around the world. The mass media over time will impact more and more people, primarily using the English language—to become more similar as local films and artifacts become marginalized (slowly disappear) by mass-produced media messages and systems.
