い adjectives are strong verb-like adjectives, so you actually have to put them in tenses. “is” the adjective ~い あかい “is” red “was” the adjective ~かった “was” red あかかった “isn’t” the adjective ~くない “is not” red あかくない “was not” the adjective ~くなかった “was not” red あかくなかった

~な adjectives are weak, wuss-like adjectives. They can't end a sentence by themselves. I’m a な adjective.
