Comparative Adjectives �A comparative adjective compares only 2 nouns. �When comparing 2 nouns add –er to the adjective. �If the adjective is a long word, write more in front of it instead of adding –er to the end of the word.

Examples of Comparative Adjectives �The mountain is tall. �A mountain is taller than a hill. �The view from a mountain is more beautiful than from a hill. • Notice that tall adds –er because it is a short adjective. • Notice that you add more in front of beautiful because it is a long adjective.

Superlative Adjectives �A superlative adjective compares 3 or more nouns. �When comparing 3 or more nouns, add –est to the adjective. �If the adjective is a long word then write most in front of it instead of adding –est to the end.

Examples of Superlative Adjectives �Denver is the highest city in the United States. �Denver is the most amazing city we have ever seen. • Notice that –est is added to high because it is a short adjective. • Notice that most is added in front of amazing because it is a long adjective.
