Additional local information about Child Sexual Exploitation Boys
Additional local information about Child Sexual Exploitation
Boys & Young Men • Don’t perceive themselves as being at risk • Believe perpetrators are more interested in girls • Believe they are tough and can look after themselves • Professionals look out for girls not boys and respond with more urgency • Gender may be different but the risk is the same
Boys & Young Men • Gender stereotypes means boys often feel asking for help is a sign of weakness • So boys and young men feel they have to deal with CSE rather than disclose • Don’t think they will be believed • Feel shame and guilt • Don’t recognise what is happening as Sexual Exploitation • Don’t want the police involved
BLAST Project ~ Working with Boys & Young Men The Blast Project have much experience and some excellent resources if this is an area you would like to follow up. http: //mesmac. co. uk/blast-resources
Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Boards have published local practice guidance to assist people in assessing risk and knowing how to respond to concerns about child sexual exploitation http: //nottinghamshirescb. proceduresonline. com/g uides/p_jnt_practice_guid. html
One of the things that the Local Practice Guidance provides is a model that identifies 3 different levels of risk or need and the appropriate response. The image above provides a simple summary. See the full document for more detail.
