Objectives By the end of this lesson, the students should be able to: § Perform addition and subtraction
Activity 1: Role Play § Two students are made to play as customer and shopkeeper. § The transaction chosen need to involve addition (buying of several goods addition of their costs) and subtraction (money exchange by shopkeeper) § The teacher is to act as a translator of what is happening, emphasizing on the arithmetic operations. Students are encouraged to participate through their reflection. Note: Goods can be brought to give a realistic aspect to the play and a calculator can be used to show the technological support we have in real life
Addition through grouping Students are allowed to perform addition using groups of objects. 2 + +5. 4+6 = +
Activity 2: Addition using Number Lines § Draw numbers, in the form of a number line, on the floor. § Students are given one digit sums to conduct and teacher scaffolds by indicating the direction to move.
