Objectives • Objective: We will add and subtract like fractions. • Language Objective: We will use key words numerator, like denominators, and simplify.
Vocabulary • like fraction – fractions with the same denominator • numerator – the number above the line of a fraction, showing the number of parts of the whole • simplify – to reduce the numerator and denominator in a fraction to the smallest numbers possible • ⅜, ⅝, ⅞
Notes • To add or subtract fractions with like denominators, add or subtract the numerator and keep the denominator the same • Be sure to simplify the fraction • If the sum or difference is an improper fraction, write it as a mixed number
