Adding attachments. By Lucy Stone.
What are attachments? • An email attachment is a computer file sent along with an email message. One or more files can be attached to any email message, and be sent along with it to the recipient. This is typically used as a simple method to share documents and images. A paper clip image is the standard image for an attachment in an email client.
Why are attachments useful? • Mail attachments can be a useful facility for sending files which may not be in plain text (e. g. word-processor files) between remote users. They are also, however, a prolific source of confusion, irritation and unnecessary extra trouble for recipients. They have become an increasingly common vehicle for the spread of computer viruses and other malware, to the extent where some large organisations have banned the sending or opening of email attachments altogether on their internal networks.
