The Curee Model
CLEAR COACHING • Contract – Set the scope – Establish ground rules – Establish desired outcomes MENTORING • Clarity – Understand the scenario – Know what is being asked of you – Question for understanding
CLEAR COACHING • Listening – Active listening and appropriate questioning to allow the coachee to develop understanding and personal insight MENTORING • Linking – to your own experience – to examples from other organisations – No suggestion or expectation of a solution at this stage
CLEAR COACHING • Exploring – Challenging the coachee to identify and work through possibilities for action MENTORING • Exploring – Guiding and helping the mentee to identify and work through possibilities for action Note the subtle difference? With mentoring you can add to the possibilities for action.
CLEAR COACHING • Action – Supporting the Coachee in selecting the best way forward MENTORING • Action – Supporting the Mentee in selecting the best way forward In either case the best solutions flow from the coachee or mentee. They must take ownership of the action(s)
CLEAR COACHING • REVIEW – Reflect on what has changed – Reinforce decisions made MENTORING • REVIEW – Restate the question – Review the solution
