Peter’s Sermon Re vie w • Peter explains how this is happening. • The enormity of what was transpiring was not lost on the crowd. They were trying to figure it out. • They’re not drunk. . . This is what was prophesied! (17 -21, Joel 2: 28 -32) • Then Peter turns their attention to Jesus
“Men of Israel, listen. . . ” Re vie w • God proved who Jesus was by miracles, wonders, and signs. • You saw these things. You know what He did. • With predetermination and foreknowledge God delivered Him • You nailed Him to a cross and put Him to death • God raised Him up • David speaks of Him (25 -28; Psalm 16: 8 -11) • He would not be abandoned to Hades, nor would he undergo decay.
“I may confidently say. . . ” Re vie w • David is dead. And buried. And there’s his tomb. (29) • God swore an oath to put his descendant on his throne (30) • David looked to the future and spoke of the resurrection of Christ (31) • Exalted to the right hand of God • Poured forth the Holy Spirit which you see and hear (33)
“I may confidently say. . . ” Re vie w “It was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: The LORD said to My LORD, sit at MY right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet” (34, Psalm 110: 1) “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ – this Jesus whom you crucified” (36)
Re vie w “Brethren, what shall we do? ”
Peter Continues. . . Re vie w • Repent and be baptized. . . (38 -39) • You will receive forgiveness of sins • You will receive gift of the Holy Spirit • This promise is for you, your children, and all far away • Testifying and exhorting continued. . . (40) “Be saved from this perverse generation” • The result of the apostles teaching that day: about 3, 000 souls were added (41)

Lame Man and a Lesson • Peter and John heal the lame man (1 -10) • Crowd gathers in amazement • Peter preaches (11 -26) • Peter directs attention away from himself and toward God. The God they knew. You crucified Him God raised Him up We are witnesses • You did this in ignorance. But, this is how God fulfilled what He had said through the prophets
Brethren, what shall we do? moment
Repent, so that… • Sins may be blotted out • Times of refreshing may come • That He may send Jesus, the Christ • Whom heaven will keep until… • The period of restoration of all things spoken of by God through His prophets: • Moses (Deut 18: 15, 18 -19) • Prophets from Samuel onward • "You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant" • Covenant made with Abraham (Gen 12: 3; 22: 18) • God raised Him up for you…. first…to bless you by turning you away from sin
