Activity Area Games (fundamentals) Focus Dexterity + Determination Key Stage 3/4 Introduction: This learning challenge is based around ‘a medley of juggling’ to improve hand/eye co-ordination, fine motor control/ dexterity and determination to improve your ability to stick at a difficult task and improve over time Attitudes Skills Knowledge (inc. vocab) Show determination in learning a new and challenging task Develop hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills Understand the meaning and importance of dexterity, determination and co-ordination Activities (challenges) Approaches (ideas to intro & teach) Assessment (ideas for diagnostic, formative & summative assessment) Teacher resource for QPE @ home Throw clap catch combinations warm-up - Using balled socks or a ball, how many claps can you do and still catch the ball? FDR 7 VQ Start lesson by checking in on how students are, what healthy active choices they have made in the last 48 hours, any plans for getting active in next 48 hrs and any barriers/ solutions to those healthy active living challenges? 2 minutes live together doing throw-clap-catch with balled socks Share the idea of juggle &/ or bottle flip challenge then send away to practice (with links to support) Students to submit best score so far at end of lesson, day and week Diagnostic – all students to record max. number of clap catches in chat box by end of 2 minute intro Formative – students to keep a simple record of attempts, effort (practice time committed) and progress Summative assessment – students to submit video of best attempt with intro sharing how much time & effort + what they have learnt from the process Key terms (vocab utilised) Big questions (to help structure learning & reflection) Dexterity = skill in performing complex tasks, especially with hands Determination = to continue trying at something (also resilience, persistence, grit) Co-ordination = ability to use different body parts together with control & fluency Fine motor control = movements using small muscles in hands & wrists (not gross movements which are bigger muscles & movements) The skills (dexterity, determination etc) you developed through this challenge are also transferable to sport, school and wider life. 1.
