+ Active Voice n In a sentence using active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action expressed in the verb. n The subject directly performs the action. n What is a subject? n n The noun in the sentence that completes the action. What is a verb? n A word used to show action, state of being, or occurrence.

+ Passive Voice n In a sentence using passive voice, the subject is acted upon; he or she receives the action expressed by the verb. n The subject indirectly performs the action. n This can be easily noticed because the phrase “by the…” is often used.
