Active & Passive Voice (thoughts on doing and being done)

ACTIVE! Subject performs the action (Someone will demonstrate. )

Someone sits in the chair. Someone sat in the char. Someone is sitting in the chair. Someone has sat in this chair. Doesn’t matter if the verb is past or present tense. If the subject performs the verb, then it is ACTIVE VOICE.


Passive Voice A verb is passive if its action is performed upon the subject. The passive voice typically uses some form of the verb to be (am, are, is, was, were, been, being, be) Watch what happens when you diagram th. . .

Appropriate Passiveness 1. Use passive when you do not know who or what is performing the action. The book was placed on the table. 2. Use the passive voice to emphasize the receiver of an action rather than the performer of an action. The body was placed in the grave.

Just be aware Rules are made to be broken. compared to Authorities make rules to be broken.
