Logos • Argument based on logic, facts, and figures. • Identified by: numbers, percentages, facts/figures, charts • Ex: “NASA estimated that a people-to-Mars program would cost $400 billion, which inflated, would be $600 billion today. ”
Pathos • An argument based on fear and/or emotion. • Identified by: threats, fear, desire, empathy, hunger, sense of belonging.
Ethos • A form of argument based on character or authority. • Identified by: endorsements by a celebrity, person in uniform, “professionallooking” people
Sound Devices • repetition- words repeated for emphasis to create a certain effect • alliteration- repetition of initial consonant sounds (“Peter Piper picked a peck…”)
