Activator Choose one of the following human body
Activator Choose one of the following human body systems and explain how it plays an important role in cellular respiration: Digestive system Respiratory Circulatory system
Cellular Respiration Cellular respiration is the process that allows plant and animal cells to break down sugar molecules to release energy for the cell. Equation: Sugar + Oxygen Carbon dioxide + Water + ATP Reactants Products So, how do cells get the sugar and oxygen they need to perform cellular respiration? The digestive system allows your body to break down food molecules into smaller sugar molecules that can be absorbed into the bloodstream The respiratory system allows your body to bring oxygen into your lungs where it can absorbed into the bloodstream The circulatory system is what pumps the blood all around your body, allowing the sugar and oxygen to be delivered to the cells
Exemplary Student Responses – Explain how cells get the materials they need. Response 1: The cells get the materials for cellular respiration because the digestive system breaks down the food so the cells can get the nutrients. The respiratory system gets the oxygen for the cells. And the circulatory system transports the oxygen and the nutrient to the cells. Response 2: Your cells get the materials they need to perform respiration from certain organ systems, the digestive system, the respiratory system and the circulatory system. The digestive system is the way you take glucose into your body and break it down and absorb it. The respiratory system is the way your body takes in oxygen and puts it in your blood stream. The circulatory system transports glucose and oxygen around your body providing it to the cells. Then that allows them to perform cellular respiration.
Exemplary Student Responses – Explain how cells get the materials they need. Response 3: Cells get the materials through the respiratory digestive circulatory systems. The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients. the respiratory provides gas exchange between blood and air. and the circulatory is to transport blood to the whole body Response 4: You get sugar from the digestive system which breaks down your food then converts it to glucose (sugar), then circulatory system brings it everywhere in your body giving you the energy you need, then the respiratory brings in oxygen for your body and the circulatory system then brings the air around your body as well.
Calculating Calories NOVEMBER 15, 2017
Objective SWBAT: analyze the energy content carbohydrates, proteins, and fats
Reading and Questions What is a calorie? How was a calorie first defined in 1863? How many calories are there in 1 gram of carbohydrates? How many calories are there in 1 gram of protein? How many calories are there in 1 gram of fat? What is the minimum amount of calories that an adult should consume to ensure they are getting a healthy balance of nutrients? How many calories should the average, middle-aged man or woman consume per day?
Counting Calories What information will we use to calculate the number of calories?
Practice Use 3 food nutritional labels to calculate the amount of calories in a serving of the food as well as the entire package of food.
Exit Ticket If you had to get all of your calories from one specific type of food (carbohydrates, proteins, or fats), what would it be and why? Think Do about your favorite foods and their calorie contents. you think that you have a balanced diet?
