How to Increase Fluency I chose to work with a student on strengthening and increasing her fluency. Fluency provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension.
The Student • Second grade female student • Struggled in first grade • In process of being referred for testing/Special Ed • Dibels scores 36/50 and 44/50 • Does not like to read orally, low self-confidence • Strong in math • Strong parental support

Reflections Reading fluency is the ability to read words accurately, quickly and with expression. Fluency develops gradually with substantial practice and through the implementation of various strategies.
