The IPCC 2007 4 th assessment report indicate that 25 -40% of mammal species in the EAC’s national parks have become endangered

Response to CC challenges • Development of the National and Regional climate change instruments • Development and implementation of climate change projects and programs • Implementation of decisions and resolutions emanating from UNFCCC processes

EAC Preparation for COP 24 • Organizing national and Regional climate change consultative meetings • Objectives of the consultative meetings was: ü Review progress in the [implementation of the previous COPs resolutions and decisions; ü identify national climate change priorities to inform national and regional position to the forthcoming COP 24; and ü provide recommendations for strengthening national and regional climate change initiatives

Key regional position • • • The work on balanced rule book should be completed to strengthen the implementation of the Paris Agreement; NDCs should be revised in line with the national development strategies and goals; COP 24 should provide the framework to support developing countries to implement their NDCs i. e. adaptation and mitigation targets; The common time frame for NDCs review to be five years to allow for quick review and the “link between global stocktake and NDCs” needs to be maintained Parties to strengthen institutional and operational capacities for effective coordination and implementation of resilient and sustainable development programs

Key regional position (2) • • Parties to advocate for an increased availability of resources for adaptation activities, given the importance of adaptation for developing countries; Developed countries to provide adequate, direct and predictable funding to enable developing countries meet their medium and long-term adaptation programmes (NAPs); Mitigation actions to be informed by principles of the Convention particularly the principle of equity and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities; and More resources should be allocated by the UNFCCC’s financing mechanism to support the up-scaling of CSA, adoption of REE technologies and other green and blue economy initiatives
